That's a wrap - for Jackman movie in Mason
07.03.10
MASON - "Cut" echoed across the lawn of the Ingham County Courthouse on Friday afternoon.
As soon as the film stopped rolling, the crowd began to ooh and aah at Hugh Jackman as he wandered around the second day of filming of "Real Steel." Eager onlookers pointed fingers and stood on their tiptoes trying to see Jackman.
"He seems like a genuine person for all the celebrity he has," said Liz Onowen, 28, of Lansing.
Onowen was standing along the sidewalk bordering the courthouse holding a sign in the hope she'd get Jackman's attention for a picture and an autograph.
On her lunch hour, Onowen said she had to come because she's a huge fan and has seen all of Jackman's movies.
Scores of people turned out to watch the production of a Hollywood movie.
The science fiction film is being made throughout the state, including Detroit and its suburbs. The movie is about boxing robots.
Among the fans in Mason was Kimberly Bytwerk, a local resident, who said this was a rare experience she'd probably never get the chance to observe again.
"It's fun to see everyone out and around," the 25-year-old said as the clear blue sky shone down upon the crowd.
Bytwerk said she wasn't necessarily a big fan of Jackman, but had to come to see what all the commotion was about.
With the call of "action," everyone went silent. Cameras and video recorders were held high, hoping to catch a glimpse of the star of the "X-Men" movies and "Australia" in action.
Katherine Horton, 35, of Bath, carefully watched the filming with a slight smile on her face.
Horton was agog at the fact she got to see one of her favorite actors at work.
"I'm here because he's awesome," she said.
