Detroit Windsor Intern'l Film Festival leaves lasting impression (Part 2 of 4 in the DWIFF series)

"The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has no say in what I am able to do," DetroitCity.TV owner Tommy Morris said. "But, what I can do will probably hasten the FCC to have censorship, I'm sure."

Morris advises, nevertheless, to whenever possible "always get arrangements spelled out on paper" in general. Acknowledging that it is also difficult to procure national advertisers for a local production, he lists resorting to guerilla marketing as part of the package deal in his business.

He also says he has become a veritable "walking charity case" for being known to work in live streaming numerous charitable events.

Morris praises the existing tax credits for expansion in the field.

"The credits enable that," he said. "Especially younger students in this business, who are then able to enhance their production values - and it allows for greater contact networking."

Live streaming the August, 2009 Red Bull Airboat Races was Morris's piece de resistance. To-date, that holds the record for the largest completely wireless production, per tracking by Associated Press, he says.

Having begun in the business through working music concerts and festivals, Morris progressed to now offering a live viewers chat box during programming for the exchange of comments.

"I guess we have to say we believe in the freedom of speech," he joked.

After a discussion about bandwidth, Morris encouraged class participants and other Detroiters to utilize his hook-ups by putting their content on his system. Home to numerous shows and concepts, he added, "I shoot everything."
