Is 'Art House' heading home?

There's been no public screening in Michigan yet of "Art House," but coproducer Eddie Rubin hopes to change that soon. The Farmington Hills resident says the comedy, which had its world premiere at the Nashville Film Festival in April and is due later this month at the Indianapolis International Film Festival, is under consideration by several upcoming Michigan film fests. "Art House," shot mostly in Ann Arbor during the summer of 2008, features rock icon and Stooges founder Iggy Pop and indie movie newcomer Greta Gerwig ("Greenberg"). The film, which Rubin describes as a romantic comedy that's reminiscent of a John Hughes movie, is about a group of underachieving art students who face eviction from their run-down residence, a hard-partying haven for artists and artist wannabes. TV vets join the cast of 'Scream 4'

A couple new potential victims have been added to the cast of "Scream 4," now shooting in southeast Michigan.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Adam Brody -- best known for his lead role in the hit teen drama "The O.C." -- will portray a newbie cop in the fourth installment of the slasher-movie satire, while Marley Shelton (who starred in the "Eleventh Hour" TV series) will play a deputy. Erik Knudsen, who appeared in the film "Youth in Revolt" (also shot in Michigan), also has joined the cast.

"Scream 4" is reuniting director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson from the first movie, and also features several of the franchise's (surviving) familiar faces, including Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell.

Prop supply on the rise in Michigan

As moviemakers continue to flood into Michigan, film crews are on the prowl for props. Local businesses like Display Group, an events and design company in Detroit, have evolved their trade to appeal to Michigan's burgeoning film industry.

Display Group has four floors of its warehouse dedicated to storing everything and anything -- 1950s telephones, mummies and giant slot machines.

Julie Juran, co-owner of Sam's Prop House in Hazel Park, started the business with her daughter after stopping a crew that was getting ready to throw out its props.

"It's crazy how it all fell into place," Juran said.

Juran wants moviemakers to be able to find what they need in Michigan instead of bringing props from Los Angeles.
